Just discovered your site while searching for info on paddle surfboards. It’s always nice to laugh while learning and I did both.

Any sitings or opinions yet about the Channel Island Stand-up Paddle Board?

    I haven’t seen one yet.

There’s a lot going on in the SUP world. A lot of boards being introduced, and a lot of boards going into second generation as the shapers start figuring all this out.

I expect to see some good production boards shortly–we already know about the Starboard and Mistral ones. The Starboard production boards look particularly good, aimed more at SUP than wavesailing, though they’ll have a mast track. The Mistral board looks more like a big windsurfer–it’s got footstraps and hard-looking downturned edges.

I expect to also see a lot of shorter, floatier boards that do more with nose and tail widths and board thickness to gain stability and flotation. Any board over twelve feet is a handful in waves.

Of course there’s also the huge downwind boards that will never see surf. Ding King is building a monster 14 footer with foot steered fin and a narrow, paddleboard inspired shape. Ought to fly downwind, and guys like Laird will surf it (but not me).

    Hi Guys,

Russel here from Ireland. We are really into stand up surfing and see a huge future in it. The problem is that there is a supply problem in Europe at the moment with boards so I am just getting used to the basics of flat water paddling on an old 12 ft windsurfing board (heavy Bic thing with Dager board)

I looked into the channel island boards but it seems like they are made from Glass so i thought the weight would be a big issue. However i really like the shape of the stand up fish. See below
