Long Paddle

I took a really long paddle today, went from the Sauvie’s Island Bridge in the Multnomah Channel up to the ship channel and coast guard station in the Willamette River. Almost all the way to downtown Portland. I figure it was at least six miles each way, maybe eight, so 12 to 16 miles roundtrip. Took me from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, five hours of continuous paddling and an average speed of about two or three MPH. That’s pretty slow when you consider that Dave Kalama averages about eight MPH in his ocean racing. But then again, I ain’t Dave Kalama. I was paddling against the current going up river and against the wind coming back. Felt like uphill both ways. I shot video on the way back, about 55 minutes worth. I’m not sure where it left off. I’ll edit it down to about five minutes and stick it up, perhaps tomorrow.

Beautiful day. But I’m sore all over.
