Surfing Safari

Maui is NOT the ultimate surfing destination, though there are plenty of good breaks here. The classic Hawaiian breaks are on Oahu, and Kuai probably has better surf, but Maui is just fine, thank you. I’m going to run through a few of the better spots and talk about how to get in the water and what spots require significant expertise. Let’s start with Ho’okipa.

Ho’okipa is both a surfing and winsurfing/kiteboarding spot. The culture is relatively mellow because no one can really expect perfect behavior at a place that’s this popular–
